This year due to the birth of my daughter (last week) I am not doing an EMW camp. As English Camps Committee chairman I have been accused of a lack of commitment by some but as it is only the 3 year in the last 19 that I am not doing a camp I'm not too worried! Instead I am hoping to visit some, if not all, of the English Language camps for a brief spell to get an overview of what is going on. So the prayer updates over the summer will contain a mixture of my observations and brief leaders' reports. Two camps have kicked off the EMW summer season this week:
16-18 camp at Bryn-y-groes, Bala
Dan and Sharon Owen from Newtown are leading this camp. Jeremy Bailey, Port Talbot, is the chaplain and so far has spoken on 'New Birth', 'Conviction and Conversion' and 'Sanctification.' After the sermon on 'Sanctification' the morning prgramme was abandoned to give time for reflection, discussion and prayer in response to the message. I saw one group of 6-8 lads in further Bible Study for about 40 mins and one group of 4 girls in discussion and prayer.
Praise God for 30+ campers at the morning prayer meeting and evidence of real spiritual maturity amongst many.
Please pray for ongoing safety, ongoing unity amongst officers and campers and for the Lord to continue to speak through His Word.
10-12 camp at Bryntirion, Bridgend
Andrew Rees and Ruth McKenna are leading this camp. Danny Foulkes preached this morning on the healing of the leper from Mark 1. He highlighted the leper's condition, the leper's cry and the leper's cure. In a simple and engaging way he showed the children their need of a Saviour, how they need to call out to Him and what will happen when they do.
Praise the Lord for great weather and a good team of officers working well together.
Homesickness is always an issue with the younger camps so please pray for campers and parents that they will settle well and enjoy their time away from home.
26th July - 2nd August
Next week James Thackeray and Helen Lockwood are leading a 10-12 camp at Bryn-y-groes, Bala. It is their first time as leaders following the retirement of Gareth and Sian James whom they have assisted in recent years. Graham John, Swansea is chaplain for the week and it is his first time back at an EMW camp in some years. Please pray for this new leadership team that the Lord will richly bless their labours for Him.
Paul Gamston, English Camps Commitee Chairman
